About the Center:

Afikim – Har HaZofim was Nefesh Yehudi's first center. It was founded 8 years ago (2003) by a special group of Talmidei Chachamim (learned Torah scholars), with high emotional intelligence. Apart from the Israeli students studying at Afikim, programs for French, Spanish, English, and Russian speakers have been established along the years.

Every year, about 500 students pass through Afikim House, and take part in the studies and various activities. Afikim House is located near the student dorms and campus, and serves as a warm second home for many, with various social activities.

The Activities
The center conducts a variety of learning and social activities:

Chavrutot: One-on-one learning, with a personal approach, of texts from the Jewish Bookshelf.

Lessons and workshops: Aimed at the study of elemental themes in Jewish Thought, in larger groups.

Lectures: Guest speakers from the academic world and the world of Torah. The lectures integrate Jewish outlook with academic viewpoints.

Tours in Jerusalem: Experiential and instructive tours. Mostly evening tours in the Old City, focusing on heritage sites and neighborhoods throughout the city.

Shabbat meals at the center: Shabbat meals for students at the Afikim center, along with staff and family members, in the spirit and atmosphere of Shabbat.

Seminars: Twice a year, students go on weekend seminars in hotels across the country. They include nature hikes, and a Shabbat of learning and group bonding.
Students in the Community

Afikim Student Cell: A number of students, who find the Afikim activities to be of great value, have recently taken the initiative to form an Afikim student cell at the Hebrew University, aimed at promoting and expanding Afikim and its goals, among the university students.

Volunteer Work: Students initiate and take part in volunteer work at the local community of the Giv'ah HaZarfatit.

Guesthouse: There are apartments at Afikim Har HaZofim for the purpose of accommodating the families of patients, hospitalized at Hadassah Har HaZofim Hospital, which are run by students from the program.

Yad Sarah: A joint initiative of Nefesh Yehudi and Yad Sarah, which combines volunteer work at Yad Sarah, and studying Jewish content at Nefesh Yehudi, while receiving a stipend.

Afikim Band: The band is better known today as the Nefesh Yehudi Band. It was formed and has evolved through the initiative of students at Afikim Center. It currently performs in front of thousands of students, on various campuses across the country.

A dedicated staff, with a big heart, along with unique, high-quality students, form a rare combination, whose impact in the university, beyond the limits of the program, are especially palpable.

The center is active from 9:30 AM to 10:30 PM, 5 days a week.

It has easy access in terms of public transport and proximity to the dorms.
